Do you need to renovate?
There are many reasons why you might be considering renovations. If you are looking to sell your property, a brand new kitchen or bathroom suite could make a significant difference in value, and in the likelihood of achieving a quick sale. Maybe you have recently moved into a new property that is in need of renovation, or you simply fancy taking it apart and starting again.
Business owners, particularly of customer-facing businesses like shops and cafes, can stimulate a big upturn in trade by renovating their premises, since customers always like to try out something new. And after the worst flooding in decades, many homes and businesses in Sussex have been faced with no choice but to renovate.
Your first decision
Planning a renovation project is exciting, and you will feel a huge sense of satisfaction once your new home or business is unveiled. RENOVATIONS SUSSEX – RED TAPE
Depending on the scope of your renovations project, you may need planning permission and/or building regulations approval.
If your renovations do not include any work on supporting walls and will not affect the appearance or usage of the building, you may not need planning permission. We strongly recommend that you contact your local Planning Office to make sure before starting any work.
Building Regulations Approval is different from Planning Permission and whether you need it will depend upon the individual project. Generally speaking, you will need approval if there are any changes to the structure of the property or any work to wiring and drainage. You will need to contact your local Building Control department once your plans are drawn up and they will then appoint a surveyor to keep an eye on development.
